German breakfast - Deutsches Frühstück

Jonas

Have you ever tried German breakfast?

Maybe you have heard that Germans eat a lot of bread (Brot).
And you are right, we eat a lot :D

It's the traditional German breakfast (Frühstück) and we eat it with butter and some toppings (Beläge).

There are many different types of bread, and for the breakfast, buns (Brötchen) are very popular.
We cut the buns in the middle and divide them into two halves. Then we spread butter or margarine on top and then we use toppings. (see picture 1 for Brötchen)

Popular and maybe the most famous type of toppings is cold meat (Wurst).
But be careful because "Wurst" can also mean sausage in German.
That's probably the reason that a lot of people think that Germans only eat sausages :D
But actually "Wurst" refers to any kind of cold meat such as Salami, ham, turkey breast, roast beef, liver sausage and many more. (See picture 2 for Wurst)

Another popular topping is cheese (Käse).
You can buy the cheese already in slices or you can buy a big piece and cut it yourself at home.
Germans love all kinds of cheese from hard cheese, soft cheese to cream cheese or Mozarella.
(See picture 3 for Käse).

But of course you are not limited to meat and cheese. You can put any type of topping on the bread e.g. salad, tomatoes, cucumber, avocado, egg, jam, choco cream, fish....or anything else that sounds tasty to you.

I hope you enjoyed my short introduction of German breakfast.

Please try it some day :)
