New Labour government for the UK

Weekly Topic: What is a current hot topic in your country?

Last week, on the 4th July, Britain saw a dramatic change in it's politics. We have been governed by the Conservatives, (for those of you who don't know, this is right wing politics) for the past 14 years and we now have the polar opposite in power, as the Labour party won a landslide victory. This meant that they gained more seats, a term we use to count the MP constituency as opposed to actual ordinal votes. There were some shake ups in the cabinet too, this is a word we apply to the top members of the party who occupy roles like, Home Secretary and Foreign Secretary, sometimes also referred to as ministers. It is an exciting time for the UK, because we also saw a rise in independent parties gaining huge numbers of voters, such as Reform UK. If, like me, you take a casual interest in politics, you might be interested to know that the new government have big plans to build new affordable homes, something that is considerably lacking in the UK and to build more sustainable green energy areas. We will watch and wait to see how well this new party can deliver.
