Decorating with a little help!

Weekly Topic: Have you decorated your house for the Winter Holidays?

Decorating for Christmas here is simply a must every year. It’s not just about the lights and ornaments—it’s about turning the house into a space that feels cozy and welcoming! This year, once again, I had the best little “helpers” by my side: my chihuahuas, Bambi and Faline.

We started outside. Wrapping lights around the bushes is always my first job, partly because it sets the tone when you walk up to the house. The lights had, of course, become an unholy tangle in storage (why does this happen every single year? lol), so I had to wrestle with them for a bit. Bambi was all about “helping” with this part, pouncing on the wires as if I’d pulled out the world’s longest chew toy. Faline, on the other hand, kept her distance, sitting primly on the porch like a little supervisor.

Once the bushes were glowing, I moved to the front door. I hung up my grandma’s favorite wreath—a classic green one with red berries and a big velvety bow. Simple, but she loves it.

Inside, the real fun began. Decorating the living room is always the biggest task of the season. This time, I placed down quite the collection of ornaments. I added tiny Santas, snowmen, and reindeer figurines all over the place. The dining table centerpiece was next—a large cornucopia with pinecones, holly, a touch of glitter, and a small string of lights. Another of my grandmother’s favorites.

From there, I wandered through the house, adding little bits of Christmas everywhere. I tied ribbons onto the doorknobs, placed even more figurines on shelves, and hung stockings on the doors. One of my favorites is a pair of dangling Santa legs I hung on one of the bedroom doors. It’s silly and over-the-top, but it makes me laugh every time I walk by—like Santa got stuck!

The tree was the final step. It’s a small tree, but it has so much character. The ornaments are a mix of things—most of them belong to my grandmother. There are also a few handmade ones from years past, like a pair of clay paw prints from Bambi and Faline I made and painted myself. Because, well, how could I not? Bambi and Faline themselves sat by the tree while I strung up the lights, tilting their heads as if they were trying to figure out what kind of weirdness I was up to this time.

When everything was done—the lights, the little details, the warmth of it all—it felt just right. Bambi gave a happy little bark, and Faline wagged her tail, as if they agreed. That, or maybe they were just excited for the treats I was holding in my hands lol!

The house is ready for Christmas, and it feels like the season can finally begin!
