Offering food, drink, etc
Imagine you have a visitor at work. You might want to offer them a drink or something light to eat.
- Would you like a coffee?
- Can I get you a coffee?
- How about a coffee?
You could ask "Do you want a coffee?" but this is very direct. Be careful with “Do you want...?”. It’s strong, and casual. Only use it with people you know well.
Inviting someone to do something
Imagine that you want to invite your visitor to visit your company headquarters after lunch.
Here are some polite phrases you can use:
- Would you like to visit our headquarters after lunch?
- How about visiting our headquarters after lunch?
- Why don’t we visit our headquarters after lunch?
- I was thinking we could visit our headquarters after lunch. How does that sound?
- Are you busy after lunch? If not, how about visiting our headquarters?
