Agreeing and disagreeing in meetings - Business English

Vicky B

In this short article I'm going to introduce some natural, professional phrases for agreeing and disagreeing in business meetings.

PHRASES for AGREEING:
- I agree
- I think so too
- I completey agree [STRONG]
- That's a good point
- I'm with you
- That makes sense

DISAGREEING

Disagreeing is more difficult because in many cultures it is best not to be too direct.

A good tactic is to disagree softly, and then give a different suggestion.

For example:
Maybe you're right, but TV advertising is expensive. How about using social media? It has a wide audience, and it's much cheaper.

More phrases to disagree softly:
- I see what you're saying, but...
- I understand your perspective, however...
- You make a good point, but I have a few reservations...

More phrases to give an alternative suggestion:
- I recommend...
- Instead we could try...
- Another option might be....
- Have we considered...?
