English lessons without the lessons!

Liz English

Recently, one of my students said something that brought a huge smile to my face.

They told me that keeping our English penpal diary together felt like "having lessons without the lessons."

What a wonderful compliment!

When people think about improving their English, they often imagine textbooks, grammar exercises and scheduled video calls. Those things are important, but sometimes you can get just as much improvement from simply using English as part of your everyday life.

That's exactly what my diary lesson is designed to do.

Maybe it's just a few lines about your day, something annoying that happened at work, a film you've watched, your holiday plans, or even something that's worrying you. I often say that *anything* is fine and I really mean it. The diary lasts 7 days and you can write every day if you want, but there's no pressure.

Of course in this day and age you will have many opportunities to read natural, native English online. But how often can you genuinely say that what you read is a personal, direct response to you, your thoughts and ideas?

I won't correct your writing in this lesson—that isn't its purpose. Instead, you will experience natural English through genuine, casual exchanges with a native British speaker. If you would like detailed corrections, I offer separate proofreading lessons, but this diary is all about building confidence, developing a habit of using English, and enjoying the language.

If that sounds appealing, fun or challenging, I'd love to become your English penfriend for a week. I look forward to reading your first diary entry!
