A Day for Women

Mar 7, 2014

Saturday March 8th is International Woman's Day.  It is a day that we all should think about how important women are to the world.

Society makes it so easy to think that Men have made the world.  However, that is completely wrong.  Women have added so much to the world.  For example, Florence Nightingale from England started nursing.  During a horrible war started by several of Europe's male leaders, she went to help the wounded and care for people.  Today nurses are in all hospitals and definitely make medicine and the world a better place.  Also, Clara Barton, an American, started the Red Cross.  Like Nightingale, in the middle of a horrible war, she went to help the wounded and care for people.  Today because of that one woman, the Red Cross is all over the world and ready to help in times man made and natural disasters.  Furthermore, Mother Teresa helped the poor in India as she knew their suffering could hurt all of society.  In 1979 she won the Nobel Peace Prize because the committee knew that in order to help peace, poverity has to disappear.  She made the lives of so many people better.  As a result, the world became a better place.

Women really are the better sex.  The pain from child birth, a man could never tolerate.  The relationship between a child and mother is much stronger than between a child and father.  In so many houses, it is the mother and the wife who do the hard work of cleaning, cooking, raising the children that keep the house in good shape.  Women are kinder, more gentle, and more caring.  Some people believe that if women ran the world, war would end.

From mothers, sisters, wives, girlfriends to famous actresses and queens, women have made the world a better place.  On March 8th, don't only think about all the women you admire, from family to famous folks, but also thank a woman for making the world better.

In my lesson "Social Change" we can discuss more about gender inequality and why this day is so important.  I look forward to talking with you.

Until then, Happy International Women's Day.  Let's be thankful for them all!
