Hey linguists and learners on CafeTalk! I hope everyone is enjoying their day and having fun learning and teaching here on CafeTalk.
I have had a busy morning myself, and a few minutes ago I decided I wanted to start writng a journal here on the collumn. I journal everyday. I usually write about my struggles and successes during the day and things that I learned along the way. It helps me to remember life's lessons and express myself using my own English skills.
Anyway, I thought I would start writing some of my thoughts here on the collumn. I hope you can learn something from it! Enjoy!
This entry is titled "New Beginning."
The end of last month hit me like a ton of bricks. I had to go to the hospital after drinking a poisonous substance that I mistook for pepermint oil. I know right, how did that happen? After that, my health did not fully recover for about two weeks. It affected my mood, and therefore my lessons as well. I'm feeling better now, so I guess I can say I have fully recovered, but it took a toll on my attitude and changed my habits that took me awhile to build. It really set me back!
Has this ever happened to you? Have you ever been through something, like an illness or injury, that made you made you stop in your tracks and make you lose some of the progress you had gained in your studies, work or health? I know everyone experiences this at sometime in their life. How do you bounce back? After not learning Enlgish for a month or 2, how do you begin again? After not exercising for awhile, how do you get up start again?
Often times it is very difficult to start a new habit. Experts say that it takes around 21 days in order to create a new habit. That's a long time! Instead of thinking of 21 days down the road, and the obstacles that you may face, think about the present. Decide to get up and start again now, in this very moment! I'm in the process of starting new, good habits that help me to follow my passions and perform well as a teacher and a student. I have big plans for June, as I'm sure many of you do as well.
I want to encourage all of you, and myself, to get up and begin again. Get over the mental obstacles that you have created, and tell yourself that it is not too late to begin a good habit or pursue a goal. There is no better time than right now.
Remember, you can do, learn, and be anything!
Thanks for reading everyone!
