Idiomatic sports phrases used in American English

Oct 15, 2017

I may be "coming out of left field" here, but do you ever get confused whether someone is talking about a sports game or referring to something that happened to them in regular life, especially in the office? Here are just a few examples of idiomatic sports phrases commonly used in American English used in sentences:

You might hear that "business has really hit the roof" recently.

You may hear someone explaining that they "hit a home run" with their last sales "pitch".

You could hear someone say that they are really "striking out" lately with apartment hunting.

Learn about idiomatic language usage in American business culture in my lesson Business Etiquette 101 or how it is used in everyday life in my open conversation lesson if you would like!

See you in class!
