Carbs, fat, sugar?! Which one is the real EVIL!

David

This graphic sums up my feelings entirely!!!

I hear so often, 'you shouldn't eat fruit. It contains too much sugar'.
And I must admit - this is one of the stupidest things I have ever heard!

I also beleive that the notion that fruit is bad for you is one of the most DAMAGING health trends in history.

When I see people avoiding fruit and telling me not to eat it, but then indulging in some fried meat I CRINGE!!!!

There is a simple reason that the sugar in fruit is nothing like the refined sugar found in sweets, chocolate and baked goods. FIBRE!
The sugar in fruit is totally natural, and eating this with the fibre that fruit contains is not only extremely healthy but essential!

So many people worry about protein, protein, protein.
But do you know how many protein deficiencies there are in developed countries?
ZERO!!!!!

That is because the only way to be deficient in protein is if you are not eating enough calories (in which case, you have a bigger problem than protein!!!) or if you have a parasite or tapeworm living inside you.
Even if you just ate salad all day (but still ate enough calories) you would hit your protein requirements.
Nature is very intelligent!
We have everything we need in abundance.

The strongest thing in the animal kingdom is the gorilla.
And what does a gorilla eat?
PLANTS!!!
Does a gorilla need to take protein powders and supplements to stay fit and strong?
Of course not.

Conversely - it is estimated that 90% of people are fibre deficient in the west.

So eat your fruits and vegetables people!

On a final note here is something for any of you doubters to ponder -

In the Blue Zones communities (the scientifically proven regions in the world where people live the longest and free from illness) there are some interesting facts worth noting.

- They eat FAR less meat than the average populations (their diets are around 80% plant based, with the Loma Linda community being 100% vegan!)
- They all eat FRUIT!
- All of the communities eat beans/lentils/pulses daily!
- None of these communities are known for taking supplements!
- It is also interesting that none of them are particularly prone to systematic exercise as we know it today or using the gym - BUT - many of the people living in these regions have jobs in which they stand up, are outdoors, or walk or cycle everywhere in place of driving.
- Apart from the Loma Linda community - each of these groups drink alcohol on an almost daily basis! Not huge quantities. But just a glass or two of wine with friends over lunch each day, or in the evening once work has finished.

So there you have it.

If anyone asks me what I think about this newly popularised 'all meat' diet (yes if you have not heard, people are starting to beleive that eating ONLY MEAT is actually good for you), I think I will cry.......

'People love to hear GOOD news about their BAD habits' - Dr.Esselstyn - Physician, author, researcher and former Olympic rower achieving a gold in the 1956 Olympics. He is currently 84 years old and is still working daily as a physician, and is on a 100% plant based diet........
