Foods for healthy, glowing skin
Jul 22, 2018
We use different skin care products to maintain or improve the condition of our skin. We wash, exfoliate, tone and moisturize to make sure our skin stays healthy and youthful. However, we sometimes forget that healthy skin comes from within, and consuming the right foods and avoiding the wrong ones can have a great effect on the health of our skin and our body.
The best food choices
Sulphur-containing foods - onion, cabbage (especially red cabbage) and garlic.
Fermented foods - kombucha, kimchi, miso, kefir.
Antioxident rich foods - berries, spinach, beets
Matcha tea - contains EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), which reduces inflammation in our body and is beneficial to skin health.
Foods high in omega-3 fatty acids - salmon, sardines, mackerel and soy beans
Nuts and seeds
The worst food offenders:
Sugar and refined carbs - these foods increase sebum which causes oily skin.
Excess dairy - hormones found in milk influence our glands, which also increase sebum and causes oily skin.
Processed foods - foods that contain a lot of preservatives, artificial colouring and flavours cause inflammation in our body. These foods are bad for our health and our skin.
Alcohol - causes dehydration.
