British people are famously eccentric. Lets have fun learning about some weird British events, understanding British culture and practicing speaking skills. New event every month so keep a lookout!
Description
The class is aimed at beginners, interemdiate or even advanced students who want to be able to understand eccentric British culture. This is helpful for people aiming to improve their English speaking skills, whilst at the same time having the confidence to speak to friends or work colleagues about some typical British events. This is a fun class that will introduce you to a variety of annual events. The class proceeds in 6 steps.
1. The teacher supplies the student with a short video or article about the event, before the lesson. It should take about 5 minutes to watch or read. The student needs to watch the video with English subtitles and take brief notes to discuss in the class
2. The teacher starts by asking the student if they have any questions about the video or article (vocabularly they don't understand, pronunciation or grammar)
3. The student then practices reading aloud a list of words included in the video/article supplied by the teacher, after which the teacher corrects any pronunciation issues
4. This is followed by a general discussion on the topic, with either the student or the teacher bringing in related issues as appropriate. In particular the student will be asked about unusual events in their country
5. Wrap up - new vocabulary learned or pronunciation issues identified
6. Homework - discuss this event with friends and/or colleagues and share the video or article with them
The benefits of this class are as follows:
1. It is a structured approach where the student can think about the topic before the lesson and come prepared
2. The student can learn new vocabulary and have their pronunciation or grammar corrected
3. The student can learn about eccentric British events
4. Keep checking back for a new lesson event released once a month
My teaching style is calm, friendly and non-judgemental but I am prepared to challenge a student to go further, particularly if the topic requires the student to have an opinion
