In the Latin American literary landscape, Venezuelan poetry plays a significant role, though it sometimes goes unnoticed: it is no secret that editorial crises in Venezuela have hindered, for many years (more than we would like to admit), the dissemination of works that, within the country, are considered part of the canon and an inspiration for many renowned authors.
In our classes, we will approach this diverse and nearly inexhaustible array of voices that, over the last hundred years, has shaped one of the richest and most distinctive poetic sources on the continent: from the hermetic prose poems of José Antonio Ramos Sucre to the freer, more urban poetry of the Sardio literary group, and the humble yet profoundly deep mysticism of Rafael Cadenas, winner of the Reina Sofía Prize in 2018 and the Cervantes Prize in 2022.
