Joyeux Noël! Celebrate the holiday season in French.

In this 25-minute lesson, we explore how Christmas is celebrated in France and in French-speaking countries, while you practise speaking French in a relaxed and friendly way.

What we can talk about:

  • French Christmas traditions: the Advent calendar, the crèche (nativity scene), Christmas markets, and Père Noël
  • The réveillon: the big Christmas Eve dinner, with dishes like foie gras, oysters and the famous bûche de Noël
  • Useful vocabulary and expressions for the holidays (greetings, gifts, food, decorations)
  • How to write a short Christmas card or holiday message in French
  • Christmas in French-speaking Africa and other francophone countries
  • A well-known French Christmas carol, to learn new words and practise pronunciation

Who is this lesson for?

All levels are welcome. Beginners will learn simple words and greetings; intermediate and advanced students will discuss traditions and share their own holiday customs.

I am a native French speaker, born in France, and an experienced teacher. I speak slowly and clearly, and I type new words in the chat so you can review them after the lesson.
