Train your brain to decode and understand authentic speech.

Description

Hello!

I'm Alice. I'm a phonology expert. I have studied phonology at Masters's level. This class will not change your accent, but rather help you better understand rapid, natural speech. We'll dive into different phonological features. You will be given a link to a Google Classroom with optional homework and class notes.

Are you an Upper-Intermediate or Advanced learner of English?
Do you find it difficult to understand authentic listening?

The reason why it can be so difficult is because your brain needs to 'tune in' to the phonological features of natural speech.

This class is for Upper-Intermediate and Advanced learners.

Do you have difficulty following authentic listening? Want to understand TED Talks, university lecturers, accents but find yourself getting overwhelmed?

Each lesson, we will focus on listening micro-skills which are integrated with pronunciation. Lessons cover the following skills:

- Understanding tone units
- Understanding connected speech
- Analysing Native and Non-Native speaker accents/dialects
- Recognizing elements of fluent speech, connected speech such as assimilation, ellission and linking
- Practicing phonological features such as tone units and connected speech

And, at the phonemic (sound) level
- Challenging consonant clusters

This course is can be taken as a 'one off' or as a package.
