Focus: Present Perfect vs. Simple Past

1. Warm-up — “Have you ever…?” (10 min)
- Have you ever traveled alone?
- Have you ever met someone famous?
- Have you ever lost your phone?
- Have you ever tried a really strange food?
- Have you ever learned something completely by yourself?
Present Perfect
have/has + past participle
We use it for:
- Life experiences → I’ve been to Italy.
- Recent events → I’ve just finished work.
- Situations connected to now → I’ve lost my phone.
Common words:
ever, never, just, already, yet, recently, so far
Simple Past
verb in the past
We use it when we say when something happened.
I went to Italy last year.
Common expressions:
yesterday, last week, in 2023, two days ago, when I was 18
