1. Introduction to Maqam
- Introduce Maqam (Arabic scales), focusing on popular ones like Rast and Bayati.
- Explain quarter tones and demonstrate using the instrument (Cello, Violin, Viola).
2. Playing Maqam on the Instrument
- Practice the chosen Maqam (e.g., Maqam Rast) slowly, focusing on tuning and finger placement.
- Help the student understand microtonal intervals (quarter tones) on their instrument.
3. Technique Focus
- Teach bowing techniques, smooth vibrato, and glissando (sliding between notes).
- Focus on expressiveness and ornamentation typical in Arabic music.
4. Practice a Simple Arabic Piece
- Practice a short Arabic melody based on the Maqam learned.
- Focus on applying correct Maqam and technique.
5. Cool-Down and Review
- Play through the piece, review key points, and assign practice for next time.
