🍞 Master Bun the Bakers' Boy: Dreams, Jobs, and Doughy Adventures!

A 30-Minute Storytelling and Creativity Class

Are you ready to meet a boy who's absolutely bored of bread?

Join us for a fast-paced, imaginative session exploring Allan Ahlberg and Fritz Wegner's delightful classic, Master Bun the Bakers' Boy. Bertie Bun is destined to be a baker, but his heart yearns for something wilder—like becoming a butcher’s boy, a bus-driver’s boy, or maybe even a balloonist’s boy! His quest for a new career quickly lands him in a bit of a pickle...

What We’ll Do in 30 Minutes:

  1. The Humorous Read-Aloud: We will read the story together, focusing on Allan Ahlberg’s signature wordplay and rhyme.

  2. Character Chats: We’ll discuss Bertie's big problem. Why do we sometimes want to try new things? We'll explore the fun and surprising jobs mentioned in the book and the idea of "Happy Families."

  3. Creative Invention Challenge: Students will become writers themselves! We will take inspiration from the "Happy Families" series format and spend time brainstorming and inventing our own brand-new character and their hilarious, unique family job (e.g., Mrs. Kettle the Cyclist, Mr. Zip the Zookeeper).

This class goes beyond just reading a book. In just 30 minutes, your child will:

  • Boost Comprehension: Practice following a narrative structure and understanding character motivation.

  • Enhance Vocabulary: Engage with the clever language and wordplay Ahlberg is famous for.
