Mind broadening ideas for advanced learners of English.

Description

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

TED TALKS are a great way to study English!!

Not only do you learn English, you also learn powerful, amazing "ideas worth spreading" about all sorts of topics.

Each talk either challenges you to think deeply or teaches you something you'll feel richer for knowing. It is a truly intellectually stimulating experience.

TED TALKS will enable you to practice multiple English skills: listening, speaking, reading, critical thinking, vocabulary development and more.

Your tutor will show you how to use TED TALKS to the maximum benefit.

After listening to the talks you will have a good discussion with your tutor about the topics.

First, you choose one from the following short (under 6 minutes) speeches/videos:

"Got a Meeting? Take a Walk!" by Nilofer Merchant

Second, sign up for a TRIAL LESSON (30 minutes, 1000 points)

I will show you how to:

1)  Access TED TALKS and search for specific talks (https://www.ted.com/talks)
2)  Access both Japanese and English subtitles
3)  Access both Japanese and English transcripts
4)  Easily repeat listening to specific segments of the video
5)  Create a notebook for new vocabulary and expressions
6)  Take notes / identify key concepts in the speech

Third, sign up for a longer lesson (50 minutes, 2500 points)

Before the lesson, watch the TED video two or three or four times, until you can understand it without reading the subtitles. Jot down new vocabulary and take notes, including any questions or opinions you may have about the topic.

We'll go over it together in depth.

First we'll discuss new vocabulary and expressions.

Then we'll discuss your reactions to the topic itself.

LEARNING WHILE DISCUSSING!
