🧩 Anecdote Task: A Childhood Holiday I’ll Never Forget
Task:
Think back to a special holiday you had as a child. Choose one particular activity or moment that you still remember clearly. Describe what happened, what you did, how you felt, and why it has stayed in your memory.
You should try to set the scene, describe the place and people, and use emotional or sensory details (what you saw, heard, felt, smelled, etc.).
Your teacher will ask follow-up questions to help you expand your story.
🔍 Use these questions to guide your story:
• Where did you go and how old were you?
• Who were you with?
• What made that moment so special?
• What do you remember most clearly?
• How do you feel when you think about it now?
Tenses:
• Past Simple (for main actions: We went swimming...)
• Past Continuous (for background: The sun was shining...)
• Used to / Would (for repeated past actions: We used to go every summer...)
• Present Simple (for emotional reflection: I still remember the smell of the sea...)
Descriptive & Nostalgic Language:
• peaceful / magical / exciting / unforgettable
• I can still picture it…
• It felt like the best day of my life…
• I didn’t realise it then, but…
• We laughed so much that day…
💬 Example:
My family used to go camping every summer. I must have been about nine or ten when we went camping in the mountains. I still remember waking up to the sound of birds and the smell of pine trees. We sat around the campfire every night, roasting marshmallows and telling silly stories. That one afternoon, it started to rain but we didn’t care—we just ran through the forest getting soaked and laughing like crazy. I didn’t realise it then, but those were some of the happiest moments of my childhood.
