If you're a parent with a young child who has just moved to an English-speaking country, you will have to go to a parent's evening. Here's some speaking and listening practice to help you prepare.
Description
This predominantly speaking-based lesson will be suitable for upper-intermediate adult learners who have moved to an English-speaking country. It would be particularly suitable for any parents of young children especially if they are just starting school.
The lesson would start with a warmer where the learner will be asked about their own school days and whether they have "parent's evenings" in their home country. From here, we will listen to a model of a parent's evening, so that the student will know what to expect. Obviously, this model is just an example and a real parent's evening might not function exactly according to that.
We can also read through the model to provide reading and speaking practice to the learner. Following this, we will breakdown the structure of a parent's evening and then write our own parent's evening script together. Afterwards, we will act this out as a role-play.
The materials needed are all my own. I can send these through before the lesson starts. Rather than focussing on a particular grammatical concept, we will be focussing more on speaking, listening, vocabulary and using English in context.
