Description

This lesson plan is designed for intermediate learners, makes use of the Direct and Audio-Lingual Methods, and follows the Present, Practice, Produce format.

Stage Aim 1:
Introduction – The teacher greets the student and vice versa.  The student and the teacher introduce themselves to each other if necessary.

Stage Aim 2:
The teacher opens his PowerPoint presentation and introduces the topic of the day's lesson: singular and plural nouns.  The teacher elicits from the student what he or she knows about how to make a noun plural.

Stage Aim 3:
The teacher demonstrates how to make nouns plural in English, explaining the difference between nouns that are regular or irregular in the plural.  The teacher shows the student a chart explaining all the rules for making nouns plural.  The student reads the chart out loud.

Stage Aim 4:
The teacher shows the student twenty-five items in the PowerPoint presentation.  Some items are singular some are plural.  The student will have to provide the noun or name for each item and use the correct form in the plural.

Stage Aim 5:
The student will be given a series of five paragraphs, each paragraph having been taken from a different text.  Each paragraph will have words taken out of it and the paragraph will be left blank where that particular noun was originally.  The student will have to read the text and fill in the blanks with the correct form of the noun in the plural.

Stage Aim 6:
The student will be given a fluency exercise in which the student will have to describe everything that he or she sees in the picture using the correct form of nouns in the plural.

Stage Aim 7:
The teacher asks the student concept check questions to verify the student’s understanding of the material covered in today’s lesson.  The teacher assigns the student homework and verifies the student’s understanding of the instructions for homework.
