Description

Objectives:

 

Blend simple sounds into words

Build confidence in early reading skills

Recognize and produce letter sounds

 

1. Greetings and song

  • Sing a phonic song together (e.g., "The ABC Phonics Song" link to be provided during the lesson)
  • Quick review of letters (A-Z) using flashcards or screen sharing

 

2. Main Lesson (15 minutes) – Letter Sounds & Blending

A. Letter Sound Focus (5 minutes)
  • Introduce or review 3-5 letter sounds (a letter chosen by an adult)
  • Show pictures and have kids say the sound (e.g., "S as in Sun!")
  • Kids can trace letters in the air to make a fun class.

 

B. Blending Practice (5 minutes)

  • Introduce CVC words (consonant-vowel-consonant) using a slide or flashcards (e.g., "s-a-t → sat")
  • Model blending sounds together, then have the child repeat. Play a "Guess the Word" game (slowly sound out a word, and the child guesses)

      C. Interactive Game (5 minutes)

 

  • "I Spy" Game: "I spy something that starts with B!" (ball, banana, etc. Use a phonics maze or drag-and-drop activity if using an online whiteboard.

3. Reading & Wrap-Up (5-10 minutes) – Fun Story & Goodbye 



Read a short phonics story with simple words.
Encourage the child to sound out words with help. Goodbye song or sticker reward. Encourage the child to practice the words before the next lesson.
