English Conversation: Focus on Comparative/Superlative Adjectives

using comparative and superlative adjectives correctly in conversation

Description

This lesson is for students who are at the lower intermediate level or above in written and spoken English.

You will learn how to use comparative and superlative adjectives correctly in conversation and in writing. You will also learn how to respond to follow up questions by explaining your opinion or reasoning process behind your statement (this is to check your comprehension, but it also raises your speaking output).

What to expect: We will go over the rules for converting regular and irregular adjectives (words that decsribe nouns) into their comparative and superlative form (sentence examples included). This information will be sent to you through Cafe Talk's messaging platform. You will be asked to choose your preferred topic(s) the day before the scheduled class.

The topic(s) of your choice will be discussed in class, and you will respond to my questions to demonstrate your use of the comparative and superlative adjectives.

You will be asked follow up questions to explain your statements. Here is an example: How do you know that the man in red is taller? I know he is TALLER because he is 185 centimeters and the man in blue is 179 centimeters. Another example: Why do you think swimming is BETTER than running? I think swimming is better because I can stay cool on a hot day. These follow up questions are designed to verify comprehension.

The final few minutes of the lesson will be used to go over what you did well, and to discuss any areas that could be improved or refined.
