Business English – Professional Communication in Meetings (5-Lesson Pack)
This 5-lesson Business English pack is designed to develop advanced professional communication skills for effective participation in workplace meetings. The primary objective is to enable learners to communicate ideas clearly, structure arguments logically, and engage confidently in formal and semi-formal business discussions. By the end of this course, learners will be able to contribute meaningfully to meetings using appropriate professional language, strategic expression, and effective discourse management techniques.
The course focuses on practical communication skills combined with linguistic accuracy and discourse competence. Learners will improve their ability to present opinions, respond to questions, negotiate decisions, clarify misunderstandings, and summarize key outcomes in professional settings. Emphasis is placed on developing fluency while maintaining grammatical precision and appropriate tone.
A significant component of this lesson pack is the mastery of adverbial phrases as tools for coherence, emphasis, and professional expression in meetings. Adverbial phrases function to organize speech, introduce perspectives, support arguments, and establish logical connections between ideas.
Examples of essential adverbial phrases and their professional application include:
• In my opinion – Used to introduce a personal viewpoint in a polite and structured manner.
Example: In my opinion, the proposed strategy requires further financial analysis before implementation.
• From my perspective – Used to present a viewpoint while acknowledging subjectivity.
Example: From my perspective, the deadline is unrealistic given the current workload.
• Based on the data / According to the report—Used to support arguments with evidence.
Example: Based on the quarterly report, productivity has increased by 8%.
• In terms of efficiency / In terms of performance—Used to focus on a specific dimension of evaluation.
Example: In terms of efficiency, the new system has reduced processing time.
• As far as I am concerned—Used to express a position diplomatically while maintaining professionalism.
Example: As far as I am concerned, we should prioritize client feedback before making revisions.
• At this stage – Used to indicate current progress or temporary status.
Example: At this stage, further consultation with stakeholders is necessary.
• For the time being – Used to describe temporary decisions or arrangements.
Example: For the time being, we will maintain the current operational structure.
Learners will also develop competence in other essential meeting skills, including:

Cancelling individual requests in a pack
This lesson is “Immediately Confirmed”
If the requested date falls within 30 days, the request will be “confirmed” immediately without having to wait for the tutor to reply.
Requests will be confirmed immdiately expect the first one of a pack. If confirmed immediately, the policy “before request is confirmed” will not apply.

- Cancellation possible at any time without charge.
After request is confirmed (fixed)
- More than 24 hours before lesson start time.→ Cancellation is possible at any time.
- Less than 24 hours before lesson start time.→ The tutor may take a cancellation fee.
