Expanding your vocabulary
Description
The purpose of this lesson is to increase students' vocabulary, by introducing them to new words and their meanings. It also helps with spelling, pronunciation, and grammar.
The lesson also has the added advantage of building a link between the student and teacher as they work together to solve word problems.
The lesson is divided into steps.
Step 1: The teacher gives the student five new words (object words) and the student is asked to pronounce each word together with the teacher.
Step 2: The student is asked to find out the meaning of each word.
Step 3: The student is then asked to put each new word into a separate sentence and read that sentence to the teacher
Step 4: The student is then asked to write another sentence but replace the object word with another word that has the same meaning.
Step 5: The teacher and student review all the words together with the student reading the sentences aloud.
