Planning a Trip

Kursinhalt

Start - (10 minutes)

A brief, casual conversation about past experiences traveling and places that the student would like to visit. This will serve as a warm-up.

Vocabulary -

The student will be shown a list of useful vocabulary words and phrases related to travel, booking flights, and making hotel reservations. The student will be asked which words and phrases they are already familiar with, and which words and phrases they do not know. We will focus only on the terms the student does not already know, as to make the best use of lesson time.

Task (planning a hypothetical trip)-

This phase will be a mix of conversation and reading practice. The student will be asked about which English-Speaking countries they might like to visit. After coming up with two or more options, the student will be asked to choose a destination for a hypthetical trip. The student will need to decide where they will go, how they will get there, where they will stay, and when they will depart/return. The student will also be provided with a "budget", which they will need to take into consideration when planning their trip.

Once the details have been decided, the student will be shown two to three different websites for booking flights. The student will be asked to search for a round trip flight using the dates they have chosen. The student will decide on a flight and add it to their "intinerary", a list of imformation for their trip.

After the student has chosen a flight, they will find a hotel or other lodgings. I will introduce the student to a couple different sites for booking hotel rooms, for example, "booking.com", which they will use to find and choose a place to stay during their trip.

After the hotel has been decided, the student will then come up with some different activities that they would like to try during their trip. They will be asked to take into consideration the location of their hotel, costs, and amount of time they will have for their trip.

Wrap-up/end-

The lesson will end with a brief reflection on the trip planning activity. The student will be asked to share how they felt about the activity, what they found difficult, what they found easy, and what they learned.
