🎯 Lesson Objectives:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
Identify and name common hobbies in English
Ask and answer questions about hobbies using the present simple
Talk about their own hobbies with basic detail
📋 Materials:
Flashcards or images of hobbies (e.g., reading, cooking, dancing)
Handout with matching or gap-fill
Whiteboard and markers
Audio or video (optional, e.g., short clip of people discussing hobbies)
⏰ Lesson Stages:
1. Warm-up & Lead-in (5–7 min)
Ask: “What do you like to do in your free time?”
Elicit any known hobby words (draw or mime if needed).
Show 6–8 hobby pictures and ask students to guess the words (e.g., reading, cooking, cycling, watching TV, listening to music, gardening).
2. Vocabulary Presentation (10 min)
Teach 8–10 hobby-related words. Use pictures, gestures, or personal examples:
Reading, cooking, swimming, dancing, watching TV, listening to music, painting, hiking, playing guitar, gardening.
Write them on the board with a simple example:
“I like reading.”
“She likes swimming.”
Practice pronunciation (choral and individual repetition).
3. Controlled Practice: Matching / Gap-fill (10 min)
Handout: match words to pictures or fill in the blanks with the correct hobby. Example:
“On weekends, I like _______ music.”
“My mother enjoys _______ flowers in the garden.”
Check answers together.
4. Grammar Focus (Present Simple) (5 min)
Very short review of structure:
I like + verb-ing → “I like dancing.”
He/She likes + verb-ing → “She likes painting.”
Use examples from the vocabulary list.
5. Speaking Practice: Pair Work (15 min)
Give students a dialogue template:
A: What do you like doing in your free time?
B: I like _______. What about you?
Students practice with 2–3 different partners.
Option: Use a “Find someone who…” activity:
Find someone who likes cooking.
Find someone who plays a musical instrument.
Students walk around asking:
“Do you like cooking?” → “Yes, I do.”
6. Freer Practice / Personalization (8–10 min)
Ask students to talk about their own hobbies in 2–3 full sentences:
“In my free time, I like watching movies and going for walks. I also enjoy painting.”
Students can share with a partner or the class.
7. Wrap-up & Review (5 min)
Review key vocabulary: teacher says the meaning, students say the word.

“Who likes cooking?”
“What hobby do you want to try?”
