Black Intersectional Feminism
Happy Black History Month! Let's talk about the history of intersectional feminism! It helps not only Black women but other groups as well. Ask me how it helps men, LGBTQ+ people, disabled people, and the world!
Detalles de la lección
Do you know what feminism is? Many people think that feminism is only about making sure women and men are treated equally. Many Black women throughout history have noticed that not all women are treated the same, however. "Intersectional feminism" is a term created by Kimberlé Crenshaw, an American law professor. She explained that Black women are treated unfairly because they're both women and Black.
Now, the term "intersectional feminism" is used to describe a variety of analyses, including how LGBTQ+ people are treated in society and how the needs of disabled people are often ignored. In honor of Black History Month, I'm offering this lesson on Black Intersectional Feminism.
In college, my minor was in Gender and Women's Studies and I took several courses in Queer (LGBTQ+) Theory and History. As part of my major in Science, Technology, and Society, I also studied race and public health issues.
If you want to learn more about the history of intersectional feminism and how it's still evolving, this is the perfect lesson for you! I recommend reviewing the following materials before booking the lesson:
