It may take us a few lessons to finish one story. That's fine because we will be learning new pronunciations and new vocabulary and having a fun discussion.
When you request this lesson, please request one of the stories from the list below. If you do not choose a story, I will contact you to choose one. I WILL NOT CHOOSE ONE FOR YOU.
Once you choose the story, I will send a link for the story in PDF or a web link depending on the story you selected through Cafetalk. You should start to review it before we read it together.

Pre-Intermediate Stories (SHORTER)
Hachiko - The story of Hachiko begins in the 1920s in Japan. Professor Ueno comes to Tokyo with a young dog. Life is full of events and joy for this dog. But the most important thing is that its beloved owner is nearby. Ueno is the center of the dog's universe. It is ready to accompany him everywhere. In the morning the dog sees the professor off to the station. In the evening they meet again. Every day is filled with fun and important things for Hachiko. He makes friends. The world is beautiful until one day when everything changes.
Mr. Bean in Town - Mr. Bean decided to go to the restaurant on his Birthday because he wanted to enjoy his celebration. But to be at the restaurant was an unusual situation for him. And our hero demonstrated his strange behavior there. People didn’t understand him. He hadn’t enough money for the order, so he chose “steak tartare”. He didn’t like this food and the big plate of food had a bad impression on him. Mr. Bean didn’t know what to do with it. And had found a great decision to hide the meat in things surrounding him. He considered himself very smart in this situation. Then he showed to waiter this dirty place and the manager took him to a new table and he had a new embarrassing position… Later our hero had to clean his clothes and went to the launderette. In the launderette, he found new adventures…
Alice in Wonderland - The world-famous fairy tale was written by an English writer and mathematician in 1865. This book is one of the best examples of nonsense literature. In the fairy tale, the reader can see dozens of complicated philosophical, mathematical, and linguistic jokes. In this story, we can find many interesting hidden meanings. The girl Alice spends her time on the river bank. She is bored. Suddenly she sees a strange white rabbit. The small animal has a big pocket watch in his paws and he is in a hurry. Alice follows the rabbit and falls into a hole. The curious girl finds herself in a phantasmagoric world inhabited by many anthropomorphic creatures. And this is only the beginning of her unusual, strange, and surprising adventures.
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz - The main character Dorothy is living with her aunt and uncle in Kansas. During a cyclone, she didn't have time to go down to the cellar. The cyclone took away the girl and her little dog Toto from the house into the sky and brought them to an unknown place. There were a lot of colorful flowers and trees instead of grey land like it was in her homeland. Adventures were waiting for the girl and her new friends at this place. She was going to find a way home and the only wonderful Wizard of Oz could help her with it.
Intermediate Stories (LONGER)
Life of Pi - When you hear the title of this book, you will think first of all about the boy and the tiger, who is sailing on a boat in the middle of the vast ocean. The book does have a similar scene, but still, it is not the only one. The main character of the story is Pisin. As a child, he suffered a lot because of his unusual name. In the end, he decided to call himself simply Pi in honor of the number. The father of Pi is a director of the zoo. Once he transports animals from India to Canada. Along the way, their ship gets into a strong storm. In the morning Pi wakes up from a loud noise and goes on deck. An alarm sounds. Soon Pi finds himself in a boat, surrounded by several animals. The boat gets further into the ocean. The situation is extremely dangerous and the boy does not know what to do.
The Murder at the Vicarage - By Agatha Christie Harvard graduates are highly valued in the labor market. That is why an unknown law firm from Memphis is trying to outbid a young and prospective lawyer Mitchell Y. McDeeren. He has just graduated from Harvard. At first, Mitch was skeptical of this offer. He had many possibilities including a job even in Wall Street. Nevertheless, he accepted this proposal after having visited this firm. The work conditions were very attractive. Mitch started working for it. Soon it turned out that nobody had ever left this firm. Maybe because the firm persistently takes care of its employees. There were no troubles, but once FBI warns Mitch that this choice of work was very dangerous. The main character is going to face some serious questions. Will there be a possible way to get out and stay alive?

McDeeren. He has just graduated from Harvard. At first, Mitch was skeptical of this offer. He had many possibilities including a job even in Wall Street. ADVANCED Stories (EVEN LONGER - USUALLY Close to full Books)
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Lots of great mysteries are waiting for you at this factory. The main character of this novel is Charlie Bucket. Charlie was born in a very poor family. His father is doing his best to take care of his family. Charlie eats chocolate only once a year - on his birthday. Although the family doesn't own much, they have something more precious - love and understanding. Suddenly the boy gets a chance to visit a famous factory of Willy Wonka. Willy Wonka is a pastry-cook, who is well-known all over the world. Willy hadn’t been working for a long time. Now he is going back to this sweet business. He announces a lottery of five tickets. Five children will get a unique opportunity to see his factory inside. These winners will have a lifetime supply of chocolate and only one will win the main prize.
Goldfinger - James Bond, Agent 007 is sitting in a Miami airport and waiting for his flight home from his most recent assignment. When his plane was delayed for 48 hours, Bond accepted an offer from a wealthy acquaintance to investigate whether or not the man is being cheated at cards. The pay for this small service is 10,000 pounds. The man is playing cards with Auric Goldfinger, the wealthy owner of a metallurgical empire. Keeping a careful watch on Goldfinger's hotel room, Bond has soon discovered the cheater's method and is forced to give him all the money back. Returning to London, Bond had been assigned to investigate Goldfinger, who, in addition being a cheat is also the biggest gold-smuggler in England.
Lucky Luke and Other Very Short Stories - The book consists of a dozen short stories. Each one is different but all of them are fun to read. The narrator of the story 'Lucky Luke' goes to the barber's to have his long hair cut. The barber's name is Jimmy. This man has serious problems with the reporters. The newspapers call him the worst barber in Britain. While cutting the client's hair, Jimmy explains to him the reason for such misfortune. His younger brother Luke has been lucky since childhood. Luke always gets what he wants without any effort. On the contrary, Jimmy himself has been unlucky all his life, despite hard work. Not long ago, Jimmy decided to put an end to his brother's luck. However, things did not go according to the plan.
