Where is it?

Level: Beginner (Side by Side Book 1)

Method: Presentation Practice Production:

Student will be introduced to location and related object vocabulary and its uses. The student will then be encouraged to identify various objects and places using the samples given. Finally, The teacher and student will take part in roll-play, using the vocabulary and sentence structures provided with the freedom to identify other items in various locations and places using the textbook and other inspired vocabulary.

Places Around Town EX :Bank, Supermarket. library

Objectives for this lesson:

Students will confidently ask, answer, and report on location of items in the classroom the third person format EX Where’s the pen?/ It’s on the desk" Students will practice the verb to be to report location, the student will also practice the subject pronoun it in reference to inanimate objects. EX: Where is the globe/ It is on the table.

 *Students will participate in a fun and engaging role-playing activity.

 Materials:

Share-Screen text, slides.

Side by Side Book 1, page 7-9 (and adapted materials)

Pictures of 3-5 famous people

Props for role-playing (optional: microphones, hats, sunglasses)

Procedure:

Warm-up (5 minutes):

Briefly discuss the concept of how people identify objects in a room

Practice location names and "Where is the…" encouraging repetition.

Objects & Locations (5 minutes):

Briefly show objects and locations using slides (adapted to difficulty level).

Focus on understanding the general format (pen, desk, library) without going into detail.

Identification Prep (5 minutes):

Using text, provide a list of 3-5 simple questions and provide the corresponding answers  (e.g., "Where is the pen?" It’s on the desk).

Talk about the difference in prepositions such as “..under the desk” or …beside the desk”

Interview Time! (10 minutes):

Teacher and student will ask each other where items are in the class room using the sentence structure of the textbook and pictures from the text book, and if props are available, they should be used as well.

Use role-playing props if available to add fun and engagement.

Encourage student(s) to use the target language and answer questions using present tense verbs.

Wrap up and Highlights (5 minutes):

Each pair shares a highlight from the role-playing lesson.

Allow students to ask follow-up questions.

Discuss what they learned about the objects and locations and the rules pertaining to the subject pronoun it.
