Bonjour, Lesson Plan: Beginner French (50 minutes)

Lesson Title: Building Blocks of French: Beginner Essentials

This is a longer version of my introductory lesson and will give you more of a feel of how the language works and you can practice your prononunciation once you know how to say the alphabet and vowel sounds and how to use accents.

Objective: To introduce basic French vocabulary, pronunciation, and simple sentence structures, enabling you to engage in basic conversations and build a foundational understanding of the language.

1. Introduction and Warm-Up (0-5 minutes)

Objective: Introduce the session and prepare students for learning.

Briefly discuss the lesson's goals and what to expect today. -

2. Basic Greetings and Farewells (5-15 minutes)

Objective: Teach and practice basic greetings and farewells.

Activities:

- Introduce key phrases: "Bonjour," "Bonsoir," "Salut," "Au revoir," "Bonne journée." - Practice pronunciation through repetition and echo exercises. - Engage in a brief role-play to practice using greetings and farewells in context.

3. Alphabet - Focus on correct pronunciation

4. Simple Vocabulary and Numbers (15-30 minutes)

Objective: Teach essential vocabulary and numbers 1-20.

Activities:

- Introduce basic nouns and adjectives (common objects, colors, simple descriptive words). - Use flashcards or visual aids to reinforce vocabulary retention. - Teach numbers 1-20 using counting exercises. - Practice number vocabulary in contexts like saying age or ordering at a café using "Je voudrais..."

5. Introduction to Simple Sentences (30-40 minutes)

Objective: Construct basic sentences using learned vocabulary.

Activities:

- Focus on sentence structure: Subject + Verb + Object. - Introduce simple verbs: "être" (to be), "avoir" (to have). - Create simple sentences (e.g., "Je suis étudiant," "J'ai un chat"). - Encourage student to form sentences using new vocabulary.

6. Review and Q&A (45-50 minutes)

Objective: Reinforce lesson content and address student questions.

Activities:

- Review vocabulary and phrases covered in the lesson. - Ask the student to use new words in sentences. - Encourage questions about the lesson or areas of difficulty. - Assign a simple homework task, like greeting and counting practice with family or online tools.
