Happy Spring Festival!

Apr 12, 2026

Today, April 13th, Egypt celebrates one of its oldest holidays; Sham El-Nessim, a spring festival that goes back thousands of years.

I wrote a column where I explore how this vibrant festival weaves more than 4,500 years of history, from its ancient roots as the harvest season, to the joyful modern celebrations filled with family picnics, classic spring songs, traditional foods, and the simple pleasure of “smelling the breeze.”

Whether you’re discovering it for the first time or just feeling like stepping into that spring spirit again, I hope it brings a smile and a little taste of Egyptian warmth your way.

You can read it here:

I’d also love to hear what you think, or talk more about these traditions in our next lesson!

Wishing you a beautiful and breezy spring.
