Kana K Tutor Interview

Q. Hi Kana K! Thank you for taking the time to do this interview. May we ask you to briefly introduce yourself?

A. Hello, my name is Kana.
I started playing the piano at the age of 3 under the influence of my mother, who is a piano instructor. After graduating from a music college in Japan, I studied abroad in the U.S. and in Germany, both of which I had always been interested in. I love listening to classical music as well as movie soundtracks amongst varying other types of music♪

Q. Please tell us more about your hometown and the area where you currently reside.

A. I was born and raised in the Kansai region. After graduating from a music college, I worked in Tokyo and abroad, but I am now based in Osaka where I mainly offer online lessons. I have students not only from Japan, but from all over the world as well.

Q. What motivated you to become a tutor on Cafetalk?

A. After the pandemic, I decided that I wanted to bring music to students who couldn’t attend physical classes, which is why I started teaching online lessons. I now give lessons in English to people living in the U.S. and in Europe. Lessons are available from early in the morning, so you don't need to worry about the time difference♪

Q. What are you usually up to when you're not teaching on Cafetalk? What are your hobbies and interests?

A. I love listening to music and going to concerts. Sometimes, I even organize performance sessions with my students, as well as music events with my friends♪ I enjoy traveling, visiting cafes, going to live music concerts, and anything related to music, and I am always excited about exploring music in the places I visit!

Q. A lot of students are probably curious about the atmosphere in your lessons. What can a student imagine a lesson with you to be like? What’s your teaching style?

A. Piano is an instrument that is hard to improve without practice. However, if you know how to keep practicing, and how to practice properly, you can make a big difference! I will offer lessons in a gentle and careful manner, emphasizing the importance of my students’ “I got this!” and “this is fun!” I will provide easy-to-understand and concise tips in my online lessons.

Q. Which lessons would you recommend to your students?

A. I recommend my intensive lessons designed to help you prepare for your recital or competition, as well as my assistance lesson for any of you who have been practicing but are still struggling to improve. Even just a small change can make a surprising difference in both your performance and feelings!
I welcome you to come and experience it for yourself.

Q. Finally, would you like to leave a message for your current and future students?

A. Don’t worry about not being able to perform well. It is enough as long as you have the feeling of “I want to perform like this!”
Let’s find a way to improve together. I want to offer lessons that will make my students realize “I'm glad I learned this trick to improve my piano performance!” each time they take a lesson with me. I look forward to meeting all of you!
