Q. Hi Mindy, could you give us a short self-introduction?

A. Sure! I am 25, I am originally from a small town in Oklahoma, but I am living in Chicago now.I am married to my high school sweetheart and we enjoy playing boardgames, traveling (we even had a destination wedding in Hawaii), watching football and drinking wine.I have been teaching English part-time for about 2 and a half years.

Q. According to your profile, you lived Nagoya, Japan for almost 2 years. How was your life there? Did you like the city?

A. Yes, I lived there from February 2011-July 2012 with my husband. We both worked at ECC and our lives there were great.Japan’s trains are fabulous! And, yeah, I really loved Nagoya. Since it’s so central, it was a perfect place to live for traveling. I traveled a lot around Japan but I don’t think any other city can beat Nagoya’s food! I love it.

Q. I heard you moved to Chicago recently to become a stage actress! Could you please tell us about your dream?

A. Well, I became interested in acting when I was around 9 or 10 and I did school plays throughout high school. So, it felt pretty natural for me to decide to major in Theatre Performance in college. After that, I took a break from acting to teach English in Japan, because I wanted to make money and travel around the world, but I even did a little acting in Nagoya. I played Ophelia in “Hamlet” for an English speaking theatre company called “Nameless Theatre”. It was so cool because there were Japanese subtitles above the stage, and lots of Japanese people came to the performance. So anyway, after coming back from Japan, I was ready to seriously pursue my acting career. My husband and I decided to move to Chicago because it is a great place to get started. So when I am not teaching, I am usually going on auditions or working on my acting skills. I guess my ultimate dream would be to be on a successful TV show or be in a nationally recognized Shakespeare theatre company.

Q. I’m interested in your current city, Chicago. Do you have any recommendations for sightseers?

A. Well anywhere in the downtown area is great because Chicago has beautiful architecture. We also have wonderful museums. The Chicago Field Museum has a world-famous T-Rex fossil named “Sue”. It’s famous because it is the largest, best preserved T-Rex ever found. So, that’s something cool to see!

Q. Your lesson, “Shakespeare & You” sounds interesting! Do you think can someone who doesn’t know much about Shakespeare can take it?

A. Definitely, yes! It is for anyone interested in Shakespeare’s stories and/or Shakespeare’s language. It is meant to be a fun class so anyone with an interest can take it, even if they don’t know anything about Shakespeare. It is also a very flexible class. I can help students who are studying Shakespeare in school, or me and the student could just chat about Shakespeare’s stories like Romeo & Juliet! It could be challenging or relaxing, depending on what the student wants. It is also great for learning new vocabulary, so anyone with a passion for unique English words would have fun in the lesson, I think.

Q. What is the biggest feature of your lessons?

A. I would say there are 3 major features in my lessons. Flexibility, corrections, and my students do most of the talking!

Q. Before we finish, would you like to give our students a message?

A. I hope you will take my lesson because I truly love getting to know people and talking about a wide variety of things. I know we will have a great time and imporve your English!
