I am from New York and New England. I graduated from Northfield Mount Hermon School, studied English at Brown University, and received BFA and MFA degrees from Rhode Island School of Design.
I have thirty years' experience as an international teacher living in countries around the world and, for the past eight years, I have been teaching online, first with Whales English for three years, and then privately with students in China, Singapore, and Japan. I am certified in TEFL and TEFL business English. I am a permanent expat living in Surabaya, Indonesia with my Chinese Indonesian wife.
I have written fifteen books with more in process, and I am a writer for Indonesian Expat, a very good online magazine which also publishes a printed version every month in Jakarta.
I have a Master of Fine Arts Degree from Rhode Island School of Design, the best art school in the world. I am a painter and a photographer and will offer classes in Fine Arts.
I work best with students at the intermediate to advanced level. I am serious about my students' progress but I am patient and fun to work with. My long experience has helped me relate well to all types of students and build good friendships with them.
My strengths are teaching literature and writing but I also teach reading comprehension. In some cases I just have free conversation with advanced students about many topics, making corrections in pronunciation or grammar. I am interested in almost everything so topics are easy to find. I love what I do and care about the progress my students make. Thank you. Ricker
