Understanding what Japan really means
Living Japanese
- for people who work, live in, or travel in Japan
More than perfect Japanese,
I value your willingness to understand Japanese people and their culture.
That is where talking past each other begins to fade.
[About Me]
Hello, I'm Hiromi, and I live in Shizuoka.
You can speak Japanese,
yet conversations with Japanese people somehow don't go well.
You meant no harm, and still you talk past each other.
Has that ever happened to you?
For people who work, live in, or travel in Japan,
Japanese you cannot learn from textbooks alone:
"living Japanese" is what I offer.
[What I Value]
Through my work and my daily life,
at the scenes where people living in Japan were struggling,
I have been present again and again.
In most cases, the cause is not a lack of words,
but a difference in the thinking behind the words.
So in my lessons, rather than grammar or exam preparation,
"why Japanese people say what they say"
and "why Japanese people behave as they do" -
that is what we explore together through conversation.
Once one "why" makes sense,
the other person responds differently the next time.
That, I believe, is the shortest path
to using Japanese naturally.
[This Lesson Is for You If]
- You have had trouble in daily life - city hall, hospital, school, and so on
- You are not confident in workplace Japanese or keigo
- You are not confident speaking in your own words at interviews or job hunting
- Your Japanese is fine, but conversations with Japanese people don't continue the way you want
- You find it hard to make friends, or you don't know how to close the distance with Japanese people
- You have ever thought, "Why do they say that?"
[About the Lessons]
25 minutes / video call / materials prepared by me
- Everyday Japanese
(city hall, hospital, work, shopping, school, neighborhood)
- Free talk on the "why" of Japanese people
- Japanese for interviews and job hunting
Camera on or off, either is fine,
and audio only is fine too.
Please don't worry about making mistakes.
We start with practicing how to get our message across,
then practice speaking correctly and naturally, with care.
[Finally]
It's all right if the words don't come out.
Tell me your "why do Japanese people do that?"
Once one answer clicks,
the same words sound different to you!
Come find that moment in a lesson.
