Hello! I'm Sean!

Thank you for visiting my profile!

I am a qualified Primary School Teacher and I have been teaching children for more than 15 years. I specialise in making German fun, interactive and enjoyable, particularly for children who are learning the language for the first time.

I am enthusiastic and positive in my lessons and I love making children laugh while they learn. I want my students to feel relaxed and confident enough to have a go at speaking German without worrying about making mistakes.

My Teaching Background

I worked as a Primary School Teacher in Birmingham, UK, from 2012 to 2020, teaching children aged 4–12. I became the school's Modern Foreign Languages Lead and taught German throughout the school.

Since 2021, I have been teaching German online to children from around the world. During this time, I have taught thousands of online lessons and developed and fine-tuned my own structured German curriculum for children.

Alongside my school teaching, I also ran a Saturday German class for children aged 6–12.

Before becoming a teacher, I lived and worked in Eisenach, Germany, for a year, where I taught at a local secondary school. I also worked for Rolls-Royce Deutschland for three years, using German every day.

German is not my native language – I learned it too! I therefore understand many of the difficulties that learners experience. I have passed the Goethe-Zertifikat C1 with a particularly strong result in spoken German.

German Teacher Award

While teaching German in a UK primary school, I received a Special Mention at the German Teacher Awards for:

“setting standards of excellence in the teaching of German as a foreign language in the United Kingdom.”

As you can see in my photograph, I was presented with the award by the German Ambassador to the United Kingdom.

My 100-Lesson German Programme

Over many years of teaching German, I have developed a structured 100-lesson programme designed to take children from their very first German words towards becoming increasingly confident and independent German speakers.

The lessons build progressively, so we can work our way through the programme together, gradually developing vocabulary, understanding, reading, grammar and speaking skills.

How Will I Teach?

My lessons are taught mainly in English, so children do not need any previous knowledge of German. I explain new language clearly in English and then give students lots of opportunities to hear, understand and use German themselves.

My main speciality is teaching children, particularly primary/elementary-aged learners. My resources, games, stories and teaching style have all been created with children in mind.

However, adults are very welcome too! If you are an adult beginner who doesn't mind the child-friendly nature of my classes, I would be very happy for you to work through the programme with me.

A Little About Me

Outside teaching, I am a dad to two girls, aged 9 and 11, so children are a very big part of my life both inside and outside the classroom!

I also enjoy Hyrox, sport and spending time with my family.

I love teaching German and seeing the moment when a student realises, “I can actually speak German!”

Whether this is your child's very first experience of German or they already know a little and would like to develop their skills, I hope I can help them enjoy learning and become a confident German speaker.
