Hi, I'm Jenny Starkey, a traveling teacher and language learner eager to help you on your exciting journey of language acquisition! I have worked as an English teacher for the past 12 years, mostly in international schools, but also in language schools teaching one-on-one and in small group settings. I have taught students from the age of 4 to 60, from beginner level to advanced.
I am a qualified speech therapist and psychopedagogue, and being a bilingual person myself, I did thorough research on comparing natural language acquisition to second language learning. These researches and my personal experience led me to believe that the more engaging the lessons are, the more practice students get while ENJOYING the activities, the faster they learn. I really enjoy adjusting my lesson plans to my students' individual needs, goals and learning style and because I worked a lot with young students - or maybe because of my "peterpan-like" personality - I usually come up with various games that make students forget that they are learning because it doesn't feel like "hard work".
If you enjoy learning with your specific goals and needs being the absolute priority, are looking for interactive lessons with a lot of conversation or would simply like grammar to be a little bit less "scary", feel free to contact me.
I have just completed a literary translation course (from English to Hungarian) and am quite a "language nerd" so I would be more than excited to teach Hungarian as a foreign language, share creative writing techniques, help you with proofreading in English or Hungarian.
In my work and studies I have familiarized myself with tools that help enhance social and emotional wellbeing and self-awareness, learnt a lot about psychology and am about to dive into expressive arts therapies.
I enjoy learning new skills, seeking new experiences, reading, hiking and traveling. I am in Guatemala at the moment taking a Spanish course and very much look forward to further exploring Central and South America.
I am very excited to become part of the cafetalk community and look forward to sharing my skills and meeting new students.
