The wonder of the shinobue
The Japanese shinobue flute is made of bamboo. It is a very light instrument that you can carry around with you wherever you go. However, it is also very profound. The clear sound of the shinobue rings out in our hearts and tells a tale of Japan. You can hear it in children's songs and traditional songs and it paints a picture of the beautiful lyricism of the past.
I want everyone to know the joy of playing the shinobue. Japanese instruments are different from western instruments; you can't handle them mechanically. Every single sound is produced by your breath. The way you use your fingers also shows your individuality. In Japan, instruments were made from life. Taiko drums were made from cow hide and hinoko trees towering from the heavens. Shinobue is made from fresh green bamboo. The instrument uses the life that it possesses. When you play the shinobue, play for nature. Play each and every sound from the heart, for the birds, for the flowers, and for all the living things.
