SHINO-KIMONO Tutor Profile

This tutor is currently on leave.
Hello, I'm Shino.

I offer lessons for people who want to wear kimonos and yukatas by themselves.

About my lessons
All lessons are conducted in one-on-one style and I offer suggestions based on your learning purposes.
「You want to dress in the romantic Taisho style」
「You want to dress in a sexier way」
「You want to go to dinner wearing your kimono and sash so you want to discuss the combinations and the ways to tie the sash」「You can't wear the yukata by yourself and you don't want your sash style to look like everyone else's」
「You think it looks cool but you want a second opinion」
「You've checked out the demonstration video on how to tie a sash, but you still can't tie it nicely」etc...

Instead of wearing the kimono in a standard style, I want to help you get closer to your image so before the lesson, I'll go over some details with you.
In the lessons, we'll emphasize on practicing. In one lesson, we'll practice wearing the kimono/yukata at least twice so you get a good grip on how to wear them.
I want you to feel relaxed as if you're being taught by a friend, instead of a teacher-student relationship. Please feel free to tell me if it's difficult and it's hard to understand, or you can ask me to explain again.

<Getting to know kimono>
Although many people believe kimonos and yukatas have to be dressed in a certain way, there are no set rules for fashion. People have their own preferences.
The only times you need to be aware of your kimono styles are special occasions such as weddings and parties.
Usually, I believe you can choose the styles you like and dress in your preferred styles. It's as if you're going to places wearing jeans and t-shirts, there are no standard rules for kimonos that you have to follow.
I hope you can enjoy wearing the kimono without fearing what others think about you.
↓Even though I'm already 30 years old, I still wear clothes with ribbons or wisteria knots on a regular basis because I could care less of what others think about me.
<About me>
With the influence of my mother, I've been surrounded by kimono since I was a primary school student. Five years ago, I received my teaching certificate from Kyoto Kimono Gakuin. On week days, I work at a local company and on most of my days off, I enjoy wearing kimonos and yukatas.
I'm good at dressing the kimono by myself, but if requested I can also help you with kimono-dressing for coming-of-age ceremonies, weddings, and individual lessons on a one-off basis. I'm not familiar with the types of fabrics, menufacturing methods and techniques. If the design looks nice, even if the kimono is made from polyester, I think that's totally acceptable. Since the rank of the kimono is determined by its pattern, I can offer advice on how to dress the kimono but it is difficult for me to give you a detailed assessment on your kimono. Thank you for your understanding.

As I live in the countryside, it's difficult for me to meet people who share the same passion for kimono.
I hope I can find a lot of people who like kimono on here and I'm looking forward to meeting them.
