Hello ! My name is Tonia :)

When I turned 30 years old, I thought my plans would have been standardized by my status as Southern Italian woman in her “ready to settle down age”,  i.e. buying a house, getting married, having a family and maybe  not even thinking about my personal future plans.  Well, that’s what I thought … but what happened was that my passion for travelling brought me to Japan to start a new life, a new career, but…same old boyfriend!

It has been 2 years since I moved to Osaka and I am now  working as English Teacher in an International School for Children aged 1-12 and adults, and Italian teacher  too. Before Osaka, after my Graduation in Business and Tourism Management and my Master’s Degree in the same field, I moved abroad and lived for 6 years in a small town in UK where I worked as Hotel Contractor for a Tour Operator in charge of the Indian and the Chinese market. Thanks to my job, that required a lot of travelling, I had the possibility to explore new cultures and new places mainly all over Europe.

Of course I was travelling for business reasons and, although in my young age I travelled a lot with my family, I still wasn’t satisfied enough with my travel experience; I wanted to see more, to widen my horizon and spread my wings somewhere far, far away and discover a new me.  This gave me the strength to quit the job I’ve always studied for and to book a flight, together with my boyfriend, to Japan, “The Land of the Rising Sun”.  Yes, it wasn’t easy, and still it isn’t easy, living in a completely different reality from what I was used to. I had the so called culture shock which , especially in Japan, is very common.  Japan is a country with a rich history and strict traditional values, along with a quirky modern culture. This clash of new age and tradition creates an interesting culture. Plus, my lack of knowledge of the Japanese Language, didn’t help me to find a job to start with in line with my background. And then, after not too long, I found a job as English Teacher in an International school and I fell in love with this job. Of course it was all new to me as I was used to a very different work reality, but the more I teach the more I am satisfied of myself, hence why I have also decided to get my TEFL  and TESOL certificate with 90% score !

Although English is not my mother tongue, my experience in UK, in addition to my studies in a Languages College, makes me extremely passionate about sharing my knowledge especially to kids, as the joy that comes from teaching to these young learners can’t be compared to anything else. Sometimes it is hard to teach a Language which is not your own, but I think that the main point from a non-mother tongue teacher is that I am not taking as granted all the processes  of learning a foreign language and I am always trying to find the best way to explain the hardest parts.

I am very outgoing, talkative and opened to listen at you .

I am proud to be Italian, hence why I can't wait to teach you my native language and how beautiful it is . It's like singing a song but you are actually speaking Italian!

As a stereotypical Italian person, I do love pasta, pizza, espresso, music, I am obsessed with fashion, I talk with my hands and I can’t live without calling my family every day! Enough for you to choose me as your Italian teacher? J I think so, right?!

I come from a small town at the foot of Etna volcano in Sicily and I can also talk to you about my beautiful land and give you some travelling tips if you are looking forward to go someday to Italy.
