Originally from the U.K, 20 miles (about 30Km) west of London, I now live in Okinawa Japan.
I originally came to Okinawa 4 years ago, like many experienced martial artists to study in the birth place of Karate. However I fell in love with the culture of Japan (and the weather in Okinawa!) and moved here in January 2019.
My job in Okinawa is an English teacher for several well known and respected Eikaiwa. I teach all ages of students from small children to retired people, all of different ability levels from complete beginner with no English to advanced level.
Some of my students have gone onto achieve great success including:
Exams - university and high school
Entry to university
Moving abroad to study
Moving abroad with their company for work
International travel - frequent trips
Working holiday VISA - young people
I have been studying Japanese for 3 years, so I understand that learning a new language is a big challenge (I still cannot read Kanji)! However I think the most important thing when learning is to have fun. That is why I study Japanese every day – filling in my note book on anything new I have learned while drinking the milk shakes in Mos Burger on the way home from work!
Before moving to Okinawa, I was a police officer on the western side of London for 13 years. I spent a lot of time around Windsor Castle which included Prince Harry and Megan’s wedding (May 2018) and changing of the Queens guard!
I have lots of experience of report writing and giving presentations, as my job meant I had to prepare case papers for court and then give evidenc in person!
When I am not working I love martial arts, I have a 3rd Dan in Goju Ryu Karate and 3rd Dan in Kobudo (weapons), I have just published a Karate book with my Sensei: Peaceful Warrior - Okinawa Karate, the original MMA. This is available on Amazon, so In have experience of published!
I also love being by the ocean: snorkelling, surfing, sailing or just being next to the water!
