About me:
Hello! My name is Alexa (アレクサ)! I live in Orlando, Florida in the United States, about 40 minutes away from Disney World. I graduated from Emory University with a major in East Asian Studies and a minor in Music. I also studied abroad at Doshisha University in Kyoto, Japan. Kyoto is like a second home to me!
My favorite place in Japan is Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto!
My favorite hobbies are music, movies, and video games. I love playing songs from Disney movies and Final Fantasy games on the piano!
Today, I am a Japanese-English translator at a major Japanese engineering company. No topic is too difficult! I love to learn new words and kanji while I work.
Teaching Japanese and English:
I taught high school Japanese and English. Watching my students learn more and more about Japan and grow to love it was a joy to me. I love to mix language with culture in my teaching because learning a new language isn’t just about the words: it means learning about the people and the country, too! I hope we can talk all about music, holidays, history, and more!
The English classes I taught were for non-native speakers who had just moved to America ("ESOL"). From these experiences, I know I can help you learn English no matter what level you are at.
My lessons:
- My #1 priority is to have a comfortable, relaxing environment where you can learn at your own pace.
- My English lessons will be spoken in English, but if you need, I can help you in Japanese, too. Beginner Japanese lessons will be conducted mostly in English to get you started.
- I will help you write notes so that you can refer back to things we discussed in our lesson.
