Hello, dear English learners!

My acceptance of new students is limited at this time. This is because from now on, I will be taking short, random trips, making my schedule unpredictable. So if you want to book a lesson with me, please message me first to see if I'm available for your preferred schedule. Thank you for your patience!  (^_^)

About Me:

                                            Lijiang county, Yunnan, China

Hi!  Please call me Maiya.

I am from Baguio city, Philippines. My city is very different from other places in the Philippines. It is located in a mountainous region and so the climate is very comfortable. It is not hot at all. There are many English schools and foreign students in my city. I used to teach offline English lessons in one of the first English academies in my city. Later on, I shifted to teaching English online.

I completed my Bachelor of Arts degree in the Social Sciences from the University of the Philippines. And then I went to Japan as an exchange student. After one school year in Tokyo, I came back to my country and worked in research for a while. Then I went back to Japan for my master’s degree.

After my master’s degree, I came back home and worked for a Japanese company for a short time. Then I went traveling around the Philippines, Southwestern China, and Southeast Asia for almost two years. When I came back home, I started to write a book while teaching English, online, as a part-time job.

My hobbies include reading books, traveling, mountain climbing, dancing, and painting.

What to Expect From My Lessons?

As much as possible, I would like my lessons be tailored or targeted according to the student’s needs or special requests. However, I would like to focus on improving a student’s communication or English conversation skills. This is because based on my observation and experience, a lot of ESL students from East Asia study a lot of grammar in school but lack practical application when it comes to real-life situations. Due to a lack of immersion in an English environment, both listening and speaking are very weak points.  I wish to provide a comfortable, relaxed, and fun atmosphere for English learners to practice and gain confidence in speaking in English.

                                     Angkor Wat, Siem Reap, Cambodia

I welcome beginners, intermediate, and advanced learners. Because of my experience, I can easily adjust to the student's level. I find it always fun and relaxing to teach beginners and, at the same time, I like the challenge of dealing with advanced conversation students.

My lessons are friendly, flexible, polite, and I always get the feedback that the atmosphere of my lessons is calm.  I am very patient and I believe that learning must be engaging and fun. I offer appropriate advice according to the student's goals, circumstances, and proficiency level.

Since I am also a language learner, I understand the difficulties that come along with learning a foreign language. So don't worry, I am very patient and gentle. Let's talk, learn, and have fun!
