First you have to state it mentally that you speak whatever language you’re learning. ‘I speak …’
Accept mistakes as a part of the learning process and learn from them. Don’t take mistakes as a failure. Don’t be disappointed because you’ve made some mistakes. Consider your mistakes as something you can learn from. As human beings we all make mistakes. It’s by making mistakes that we learn. Every mistake you make brings you to the next level.
Grab every opportunity that comes your way to practice your language. Only you can make that step. You’ll never know unless you try!
Use the vocabulary you already know to make short sentences.
Say everything you do directly in the language you’re learning without translating it into your mother tongue. Train your brain to think straight away in the foreign language of your choice.
Once you manage to do the above step increase your vocabulary.
Choose any subjects you like and start with 5 new words. Have your 5 new words handy in your pocket or bag so that you can take them out and have a look at them when you don't do anything. Avoid buts. There are no buts, no excuses. If you really want to, you can always make the time to make it happen. In the elevator for instance, in the train between two stations, in the bathroom why not? Who cares? No buts, after all you’re doing it for you and only you!
At the end of the day, look back and think about what you’ve learnt so far and be happy about it! Congratulate yourself. Grant yourself a reward. Be proud of even the slightest progress you’ve accomplished.
And carry on the next day. Make baby steps but move forwards and never give up.
And last but not least, have a vision of yourself speaking fluently and confidently the language you’re learning. Have a vision of how fluency in that language will change your life. If you can have that vision from the start it’s already one step towards success. And please believe in yourself. Believe in what you’re doing. If you don’t believe in yourself, how can you expect people to believe in you?
