お元気ですか？日本語講師のKayo Iです。
外国（がいこく）に住（す）むということは、大冒険（だいぼうけん）です！
私にとって忘（わす）れられないのはマレ－シアでの経験（けいけん）です。
私の日本語教師（にほんごきょうし）デビュ－がクアラルンプールの語学学校（ごがくがっこう）でした。20年ほど前のことです。それまでは英語を学（まな）んでいたこともあり、アメリカ語学留学（りゅうがく）、イギリスでホームステイなどの経験がありましたが、東南（とうなん）アジアはその時が初（はじ）めてだったので、チャレンジの日々（ひび）でした。
・言葉（ことば）のこと
始（はじ）めの１か月、マレ－シア人の英語が聞き取れなくて焦（あせ）りました。彼らはちょっとユニ－クな発音（はつおん）や言い回（まわ）しを使（つか）い、話すスピ－ドも速（はや）かったからです。めげずに耳を傾（かたむ）けていたら、数か月後（すうかげつご）には分かるようになり、コミュニケ－ションが取れるようになりました。
・交通（こうつう）のこと
マレ－シアは想像（そうぞう）していたよりずっと車社会（くるましゃかい）でした。私は郊外（こうがい）に住んでいたので、自由（じゆう）に動（うご）き回れないことにストレスを感（かん）じ、結局（けっきょく）、車を買って自分（じぶん）で運転（うんてん）することにしました。日本ではペーパ－ドライバ－だった私が！！です。
大冒険でした！いろいろありましたが、マレ－シアは居心地（いごこち）が良く、私は日本語教師として5年間（ごねんかん）滞在（たいざい）しました。あの時お世話（せわ）になったマレ－シアの方々（かたがた）には本当（ほんとう）に感謝（かんしゃ）しています。いつの日か、きっとまた。。。(*^^*)

How are you? It’s Kayo from Tokyo.
Living abroad is definitely a big adventure.
For me, the biggest adventure of my life was living in Malaysia.
It was my debut as a Japanese language teacher. It was 20 years ago. Oh, how time flies!
At that time, I had been to Western countries, but visiting Southeast Asia was my first time.
I experienced really exciting days there.
・Means of Communication
The first month, I was not able to pick up what Malaysians were saying in English,because the language they used contained a bit of a unique accent with different expressions,and it sounded super fast to my ears. It took me months to get used to it.
・Means of Transportation
Malaysia was actually such a car society. I was frustrated that I couldn’t travel freely without a car. Eventually, I purchased a car and drove by myself. Actually, I had been a so-called “paper driver”: a license holder that almost never drives, in Japan.
What an amazing adventure! Those are great memories of mine. I stayed in Malaysia for 5 years as a Japanese language teacher. I really appreciate those who supported me while I was in Malaysia.
Let’s go on an adventure, someday, again!
