(
エシカル消費って?)Ethical Consumption?

Hello, everyone. How’s it going? It’s Teacher Asuka.

Today, I’m going to talk about ”Ethical Consumption”. Have you ever heard the word, Ethical”?

According to the Oxford Learner’s Dictionary, it is “connected with beliefs and principles about what is right and wrong”.

When it comes to “Ethical Consumption”, it seems to be started in Britain originally in 1989. Since then, people in Britain tend to buy the goods which will lead to solve and contribute social issues such as environmental -friendly and social justice. After that, it is followed in the US in 2011. In Japan, an association for promoting ethical consumption has been established in 2014 and many people has been interested in buying such ethical commodities in recent years.

Buying such a kind of ethical goods and not buying non-ethical goods can solve and contribute the world environmental issues, or social issues. In Britain, they’ve got a criterion that evaluates degrees on ethical consumption, but Japan doesn’t have it yet.

Almost 25 years ago, “Ethical Consumer” was appeared, people know such a word much more than before. However, in an ethical point of view, we need to see through which one consumer should buy could be right genuinely for environmental-friendly, social-good, and social justice or not, when buying them.

Continuing these movements around the world will make the world comfier and bring us much happier life.

Thank you for joining me as well.

See you next time.
