Hadrian's Villa is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was built by Roman Emperor Hadrian at Tivoli, outside Rome.
The villa is located between the two tributaries of the Aniene River in the plain below Tivoli, east of Rome. The emperor chose this location for many reasons: it was an area full of water and vegetation. It was also a strategic and safe area.
The architectural project of the Villa represented a real city, extending over an area of about 120 hectares and divided into four bases: the local buildings and spas, the Imperial Palace, the summer residence and the monumental area.
At the end of the Roman Empire, the Villa was abandoned and preyed. Only at the end of the nineteenth century, renovation work took place and the villa was renovated. At least, some of it was saved.
