Hello！
「verb+とき、〜」の 文（ぶん）は、「いつ？」に きをつけましょう。
We must be careful with past or non-past in using “toki” with verbs.
● 例文（れいぶん）Example sentences
(1)この スーツケースは ドイツに 行くとき、 かいました。
means, I bought this suitcase before I arrived in (or on my way to) Germany.
(2) この スーツケースは ドイツに 行ったとき、 かいました。
meaning I bought this suitcase (in Germany) when I went to Germany.
1) のパターン「verb in present tense+とき」は verbの動作（どうさ）は まだ おわっていません。
2) のパターン「verb in past tense +とき」は verbの動作（どうさ）は おわっています。
In 1) “verb in present tense+toki”, the action of the verb is not yet completed.
In 2) “verb in past tense + toki”, the action of the verb is completed.
すでに 「ドイツに行った」のですから、1）の文で「行ったとき、」と いいたくなりますが、ドイツに行った前に スーツケースをかったので 「行くとき」が 正しい（ただしい）です。
You may feel like saying “itta toki” in 1) because you already went to Germany, but when you bought the suitcase, you hadn’t arrived in (gone to) Germany yet, so “iku toki” is correct.
「行った」のに「行く」と いうので、こんらんしますね。
Using non-past tense when describing action in the past can be very confusing sometimes.
